Journal Entry

Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem,

Journal Entry – Day 2 of Lockdown

SubhanAllah, how quickly circumstances can change. Yesterday, the tension was palpable – like a heavy cloud before a storm. Even during dhuhr prayer, I could sense the unease. One by one, the brothers praying behind me dispersed as chaos erupted, leaving me alone to complete my salah in my cell.

There’s a profound lesson here. While violence erupted around me, I found peace in prayer. Allah protected me through His divine timing – my scheduled prayer time kept me safely in my cell when the riot broke out. “And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.” (65:3)

Later, when the CO’s came to examine my knuckles – a standard procedure after such incidents – I felt no anxiety. They knew I had been praying, yet protocol required the check. I showed my hands willingly, understanding their duty. In these moments, maintaining transparency and cooperation helps build trust, even in difficult circumstances.

The call with my wife today was a mercy from Allah. Despite our situation, we spoke of future plans, allowing hope to bloom in our hearts. Her strength and support remind me of Allah’s endless blessings. Even in lockdown, He provides ways for our hearts to remain connected.

The path forward is clear: keep my head down, avoid the drama that surrounds us, and immerse myself in the Quran. As Allah tells us, “Indeed, the Quran guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.” (17:9)

These walls may restrict our movement, but they cannot confine our spirits or our connection with Allah. Perhaps this lockdown is an opportunity – a chance to deepen my relationship with the Quran without distraction.

Ya Allah, protect us all during these tense times. Guide those who acted in anger yesterday, bring peace to our hearts, and help us emerge from this trial stronger in our faith.

Your brother in faith,

Wisam
