The Dash

If you summarize a persons life, it would be a collective of all things both good and bad that they did
or did not do during their life. Opportunities taken, Opportunities missed, choices they made and
how they reacted and responded to any given situation. If you take the sum of my life (so far) I believe
it is a life well lived and in spite of the snap shot of this time at camp, one that is worthy of imitation.
That is my dash. When you visit the grave of someone there is usually a name, a date of birth and a
date of death. While each of these hold there own significance in a person’s life the most important
mark on a head stone is the dash. The dash is a single line yet it represents the entire persons life.
The dash is the story. It is not a snap shot or a sound bite it is an entire life, summed up in a single line.
I’m grateful that I will not be judged by the bad decisions I made in life but the person as a whole.
How I react and my response to the situation at hand will become part of my dash. I’m not sad I’m here and thankful in many ways for this opportunity to reset, refocus and renew. In many ways I don’t think the last quarter of my life will be as profound, successful and impactful if not for this time.

Right now, just like you, the story of my dash is still being written. I’m excited and can’t wait to share
the remaining chapters.
