8/31/2024 Saturday daily diary from Atwater Camp.
Woke up at 5:30 AM. Made up my bed, cleaned up, changed to BOP uniform and made a cup of coffee. Stretched, drank my coffee and watched the local news and weather report, high temperature for today is 100 degrees F. Started walking at 6:10 AM. Breakfast was served at 6:45 AM. Breakfast menu: Oatmeal, cake, milk, sugar, apple and water (Harina de avena, torta, leche, ezucar, un manzana y agua).

The morning call out for food service workers at 5:00 AM. They were headed to the Penitentiary at 5:30 AM. The morning started out dark, hazy, breezy and cool. The lower atmosphere was hazy with plumes of smoke over the Sierras from the Coffee Pot fire and the air quality was bad. The beautiful dawn sky was on display with analogous colors radiating out of the suns path: Red, orange, yellow, light green. light blue and Blue sky. As the sun rise over the Sierras, the reddish orange sphere illuminated the Sierras giving it depth to the outline thus creating a picturesque scene and warmed the air. The rabbits were grazing on the soccer and baseball fields while Labrona and family were grazing by the fence near the basketball court. The squirrels appeared after breakfast and were scurrying around begging for food from the inmates. Walked 5 miles and ran the final mile. Completed 6 miles at 7:45 AM, in 1 hour 11 minutes and 30 seconds. Average walking times were: 11 minutes and 55 seconds per mile or 1minute and 59 seconds per lap. The pace was fast especially the final lap as I was sweating and had to walk extra laps to cool down. Stretched, split stretched and practiced Yoga at the basketball court until 8:30 AM. The practice felt good as I was able to exercise all phases: strength, flexibility, balance and breathing. Attended ACE Class Beginning Spanish 8:30 – 9:20 AM. Theme for today were: Financial terms and food – Terminos Financieros y Comida. Checked email from Doris: Doris is well and rested but was bummed because Visitation was cancelled. She walked 8976 steps, 16.7 inches step length and symmetry was 61%. Yesterday was the 222nd consecutive days she closed the ring on her iPhone. She was not going anywhere today except stay at home and in the backyard to: enjoy the weather, walk with her cast, let the dogs out an enjoy her tomato plants. I told her that we have to expect disappointments, rejection and changes when dealing with BOP and we have to be resilient to work through it. Lunch was served at 9:30 AM. Luncheon menu: scrambled eggs, pancake with syrup, fries, apple and water. Census count at 10:00 AM. Talked to Doris at 10:20 AM: Doris is well and rested. She got over the disappointment with the cancelled visitation. She was glad the SUV was okay. She will keep herself busy walking and organizing her inventory in the garage. She hope to pare down her inventory and maybe sell those items that she no longer needs. Showered and changed to casual clothes at 10:30 AM. Had a long nap. Went to library to work on my ACE Class reports and my Spanish Lessons. Census count at 3:30 PM. Dinner was served after the count. Dinner menu: meat loaf, rice, corn, bread and water. The AAPI group had cooked some Chinese dishes and shared it with the group, nice meal. ACE Class Building Permit Process 6-6:30 PM. Census count at 7:00 PM. Census count at 8:00 PM. Cleaned up at 9:00 PM. Census count at 9:30 PM. Went to bed at 10:00 PM.
