Journal Entry

8/27/2023 Sunday Daily Diary from Atwater Camp.
Woke up at 5:30 AM. Made up my bed, cleaned up, changed to casual workout clothes, and made a cup of coffee. Stretched, drank my coffee, and watched the local news and weather channel, high temperature for today is 96 degrees F. Started walking at 6:00 AM. Breakfast was served at 6:35 AM. Started washing a load of mops and rags. Finished walking at 7:20 AM. Walked 6 miles in 1 hour 11 minutes and 59 seconds. Averaged 2 minutes 16 seconds per lap or an average 11 minutes 58 seconds per mile. Ran 1/2 mile in 3 minutes 54 seconds and stretched until 8:10 AM. Practiced Yoga in the morning sun at the basketball court. Finished Yoga practice at 9:30 AM. Felt really great after the Yoga practice. Good the worship the sun during the Yoga practice. Jay Rod was sewing straps for the hangers from 8:40 – 9:50 AM. I am impressed with his work ethic and attitude towards work. Los of inmates were envious of Jay Rod, he ate with us at the AAPI dinner. He enjoys learning new things, working, and learning how to sew, under my tutelage on new sewing projects. It is surprising that I heard a couple of inmates complaining to me how bored they are and had nothing to do. Whereas I have been busy doing lots of thing since 5:30 AM, working in the sewing room, walking, running, Yoga and light laundry duties. Census count at 10:00 AM. Lunch was served after the count. Luncheon menu: scrambled eggs, toast with syrup, banana, fries and punch. Talked to Doris at 10:30 AM: Doris is well but was coughing all night. She will have her shots tomorrow. I told her about Jay Rod and how others were envious of him working for me. Jay Rod is fabricating the straps for hanger. And is also the first African American sewing in prison, that is a rare sight. The dogs are doing well chasing after Doris for treats. Doris thinks her coughing is due to her allergies. I told her that her health has improved in the last few months and she should keep working on her health. She is busy with her hat orders.
Finished sewing the hangers for cabinets and straps for hangers at 1:40 PM. Gave one of the cabinet hanger to Jay Rod and the other to Felipe. Showered AT 2:00 pm. Census count at 3:30 PM. Dinner was served after the count. Dinner menu: ground beef, tortilla, beans, corn, salsa and punch. ACE Class Music Industry 4-4:30 PM, Physiology and Fitness 5-5:30 PM and Biology at 6-6:30 PM. Examination on Music Industry, it was an easy examination. We learned about weight control in Physiology. Biology we studied about virus, bacteria and protistans. Read in the library from 4:30 – 7:00 PM. Jay Rod was fabricating the hanger straps in the sewing room. He fabricated another 20 straps. Went back to the unit at 7:00 PM. Distributed and installed the 20 hanger straps. We still need another 20 more straps. Jay Rod washed his laundry. Cleaned up at 8:20 PM. Census count at 9:00 PM. Final Census count at 9:30 PM. Went to bed at 10:00 PM.

Today was a good day: Doris is well and the dogs are well. Walked and ran 6.5 miles. Practiced Yoga in the morning sun. Jay Rod did an excellent job today. Completed my proto-type cabinet hangers. Attended ACE classes. Passed the Music Industry examination.
