The morning started out dark and cold, in the e30’s. The crescent moon was in the Eastern sky. The dawn sky started out with some low clouds over the Sierras which looked dark brownish red and the sky was dark blue, dashed with streaks of high clouds. As the morning progressed, the cloud over the Sierras turned to bright reddish brown, looked angry. The wind consolidated some of the clouds. As the sun emerged over the clouds, the red cloud turned grey and the orange sphere peeked over the low clouds. A very different sight but it was nice. Finished walking 6 miles at 8:00 AM, in 1 hour 16 minutes and 18 seconds. GED students were taking their final examinations out of four sections, today. Walking times were: 12 minutes and 10 seconds per mile (milla) or 49 seconds per lap 9vuelta). The walking speed was pretty fast as I worked up a sweat. Stretched at the basketball court until 8:30 AM, in the morning sunshine. Cleaned the computer room. Discussed future strategies for GED / ESL classes and testing. Counselor Reyes just got back after a long leave. He informed me that no new inmates are coming today. We will have one on 1/10/2024 and 3 more on 1/12/2024. Counselor Reyes had Covid while he was away. Showered at 9:20 AM and changed to BOP uniform. Talked to Doris at 9:50 AM: Doris is well and rested. She had a busy day yesterday securing her ID. She sent copies of her passport to Counselor Reyes as her Driver’s license had expired. She was happy with her meeting with Dr. Scott Lee and he will prescribe corrective lenses for her in February. The weather is cold and drizzly in the Bay Area. She will stay home after she see Dr Yang for her final shot at 12:30 PM. I told her some students are taking the last part of their GED examination today. We will have GED / ESL classes today form 12 – 2:30 PM and ACE Classes tonight. I will be hosting the Nutrition class. I told her will be doing some repairs and alterations today. She told me the copay for Dr. Lee and Dr Yang have increased to $35. I told her it was not the supplemental plan which we had and it was okay to pay $35 if it helps her see and walk better. Lunch was served at 10:20 AM. Luncheon menu: Chicken sandwich, beans, pasta, salad, an apple and water. Went to the sewing room to alter a pair of pants and shirt for Valencia. GED / ESL tutoring 12 -2:30 PM. Back to the unit at 3:00 PM. Census count at 3:30 PM. Dinner was served after the count. Dinner menu: meat loaf, pasta, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, bread and water. ACE Classes Nutrition Made Clear 5-6 PM (Hosting) and US History 6-6:30 PM. census count at 7:30 PM. Census count at 8:30 PM. Cleaned up at 9:00 PM. Final Census count at 9:30 PM. Went to bed at 10:00 PM.
Today was a good day: Doris is well and had her shot form Dr Yang. She got her ID resolved, so she could visit me. The dogs are well. Walked 6 miles and stretched. Hosted and attended ACE Classes. GED / ESL tutoring went well.
