Today, while reading, HOW TO CHANGE YOU MIND, by Michael Pollan, I found a footnote that best describes my approach to 30 years of Federal Prison:
-Several of the NYU therapists referred me to the writing of Viktor E. Frankl, the Viennese psychoanalyst and the author of MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING. Frankl, who survived both Auschwitz and Dachau, believed that the crucial human drive is not for pleasure, as his teacher Freud maintained, or power, as Alfred Adler maintained, but meaning. Frankl concurs with Nietzsche, who wrote ” He who has a Why to live for can almost bear any HOW.”
In my life, I have been called insatiable, egotistical and so yes, now they say I am, ” extra “, and they mean that I am always looking for creative ways to make this prison, our world, a better place, I can accept that as a compliment.
