Journal Entry: Celeste Monette Blair-01/05/2025-Jazz Night

Journal Entry

Tonight we ( THE PEER SUCCESS TEAM ) are hosting, ‘JAZZ NIGHT’.
We have people reading poetry and rapping, doing spoken word.

I am starting with this:

“This morning
we all got a
fresh start.

Life is what you make it,
not how anyone else makes it for you.

Didn’t we once live as if it were our last day

Wild, I know I was.

Now

We have right now,
this moment
to fill our lives
with joy, good health
and love.

Live and love
like tomorrow i
isn’t promised!” – C. Monette

Our goal is to bring the community together, do something a little more cultural and interesting.
Perhaps someone will find a new tone in their voice, a new line to free them from their own story.

Life is what you make it, and I refuse to live a re-actionary life- responding to the stresses and chaos of this prison.
Let me be a bridge in this new year; helping women to cast a line from their past, their dreams for tomorrow and to the perfection that can be found in this present.

I will also recite this:
HERE AND THERE

but there are days when
I feel like a fraud
walking around with a smile

it starts out slow
like a chip in my
windshield

I pick up the phone
to call
over and over

but there is no answer,
yes, I know
I’ve been locked down here,
it’s busy there

either way
my facade breaks
the elevated sense
of joy
that sustains me
keeps me alive
is gone
faded away for missing you
my dear

and I can’t decide
which is real
anymore
here or there.
