Biography Entry: Tara Jo Moore

My Name is Tara Jo Moore, I’m a 35-year-old female who has been incarcerated within the BOP for the past 126 months to date. What brought me here is my addiction to the fast life and the money and all the glitz and glam that came along with it. I am incarcerated on sex trafficking of minors charges. I took my case to trial due to the fact that I was guilty of running an escort service, but I stood firm on the fact that I had no knowledge of any underage individuals. At trial, the government pretty much said I didn’t need to know for a fact about any age, all I needed was a “reasonable opportunity to observe” said individuals and that I should’ve known. I was ignorant of the law at the age of 24 and had no idea how it read, and as I stated took my case to trial. Since I’ve been incarcerated, I have really and truly seen what’s important in life. While I was on the outside trying to give my children the life that I never had, I caused the complete opposite for them. I’ve taken every course available to me offered by the BOP while incarcerated, and I recently enrolled in Stratford Career Institute for funeral planning and the theory of embalming. Education is key to succeeding when an inmate is released. Knowing is half the battle. I know I am about to face all types of struggles, being labeled a felon and having to register as a sex offender so I am trying to prepare myself in every which way imaginable. Thank you, Michael, and everyone involved in advocacy efforts.
