Journal Entry: Angela M Robbins-06/04/2025-Prison Journalism Project

Journal Entry

One of the recent Prison Professors Talent Newsletters discussed creating goals and celebrating accompishments as part of the necessary ingredients toward building credibility. Thus I thought it would be important to share with the Prison Professors community that I recently heard back from Prison Journalism Project (PJP) about my second submission.

I initially submitted an article about mass punishment within prisons and the editors asked me to personalize the article, rather than write it from a more objective perspective. The second draft felt much more authentic, as I was speaking from personal experience, but also gave me pause since I am speaking out about things that the administration might not appreciate.

I was pleased to receive feedback from the editors that only minor revisions needed to be made and we are in the final stages of completion for my second article. It feels great to make these accomplishments and know that others are interested in things we have to say from behind these walls. I am looking forward to continuing this endeavor and am also taking steps to reach out to other organizations to see if they might be interested in similar contributions.
