1/5/2024 Friday daily diary from Atwater Camp.
Woke up at 5:40 AM. Made up my bed, cleaned up, changed to BOP uniform and made a cup of coffee. Stretched, drank my coffee and watched the local news and weather report, high temperature for today is 55 degrees F. Started walking at 6:30 AM. Breakfast was served at 6:20 AM. Breakfast menu: Oatmeal, muffin, an apple and water.

Plan for today:

  1. Stretch.
  2. Call Doris.
  3. Check email from Doris.
  4. Email daily diary for 1/4/2024.
  5. Walk 6 miles.
  6. Split Stretch.
  7. Quotations.
  8. ACE Classes – Geography Benelux countries 5-5:30 PM and the Art of Public Speaking 6-6:30 PM.
  9. GED / ESL tutoring 12:00 – 2:30 PM.

Finished walking 6 miles at 8:10 AM, in 1 hour 16 minutes and 48 seconds. Average walking times were: 12 minutes and 15 seconds per mile (milla) or 49 seconds per lap (vuelta). Walking times were pretty good for a cold morning. The morning walk started out dark, cold in the 40’s, overcast sky and dense fog. As the dawn sky emerged only the zone above the Sierras was clear, in some areas that were not covered by the clouds. As the sun rise, it illuminated the clouds tinting the with yellowish reddish color. The sun was bare visible briefly by was very grand and beautiful, then it was shielded by the clouds. The dawn sky was beautiful briefly then it turned to light grayish color. Stretched at the training room in the dormitory until 8:30 AM. Cleaned the computer room. Checked and replied to Doris email. I had some donuts and nutty bar for snacks. Showered at 9:20 AM and changed to BOP uniform. Talked to Doris at 10:00 AM: Doris is well and she had a good night rest. I told her I received the Spanish phrase book from Karlee. She told me I was lucky to have a Spanish tutor and probably learned all the curse words. She had not open the safe yet as it was too heavy for her. She will be busy with her room working on her Valentine’s inventory. lunch was served at 10:20 AM. Luncheon menu: fish sandwich, pasta, spinach, Cole slaw and water. Chan brought some laundry detergent for the green uniform and blankets. Went to the warehouse with Saetern to talk to CO Zalenski about inventory for the laundry room. he asked me if I have been using my own detergent to wash the inmates uniform and blankets. I told him I have used about 3 packets of detergent to wash the uniforms and blankets. he compensated me with some coffee, oatmeal, lotions, soap and chocolate. CO Zalenski was very please to meet Saetern and told him he has a job waiting for him after the A & O. Jon delivered our inventory to the laundry room. Saetern heled me to put away the inventory and also sized and put away the uniforms. I showed him how to sew on the sewing machine and with the needle. Exchanged 3 Large shirts for Phil. Exchanged one sheet for Joker. Exchanged 3 pairs of socks for Nick. Exchanged 5 pairs of socks for Edgar. I gave Saetern some used clothes, laundry bag, shorts and sandals. GED / ESL tutoring 12:00 – 2:30 PM. Four new inmates joined us at 3:20 PM. We deferred processing them until after the dinner. Census count at 3:30 PM. Dinner was served after the count. Dinner menu: shredded meat with pasta, bread, beans, salad and water. Processed the four new inmates. Exchanged pants for Armando 48X32. Issued new shirt and pants for Robert Mayfield. ACE Classes: Geography – Benelux countries 5-5:30 PM and the Art of Public Speaking 6-6:30 PM. census count at 7:30 PM. Census count at 8:30 PM. Cleaned up at 9:00 PM. Final Census count at 9:30 PM. Went to bed at 10:00 PM.
Today was a good day: Doris is well and had a good rest. The dogs are doing well. Walked 6 miles and split stretched. Got Saetern a job at the laundry. Attended ACE Classes. GED / ESL classes went well.
