Honorable Judge Hendricks
I offer this brief summary of my release plan in the event I am granted a compassionate release. I wanted you and the courts to know what my intentions for release would be if granted a release.
HOUSING:
I am fortunate to have three housing options available to me if granted an immediate release. I list them in order of priority. My first option, from my perspective, is by far the best. My sister Penny Palagyi from Albany NY has indicated that she would like for me to come live with her initially upon release. My sister is a widower and lives alone except for her two children, my niece and nephew who occasionally come for a visit. My sister in a long standing member (42 years) of the Al-Anon family of services which includes drug and alcohol programs. She is determined to guide and assist me through my own rehabilitation from alcohol and drugs. This option is my first choice for temporary housing.
My second option is to return to the Lubbock Faith Center, where I resided for 9 months prior to self-surrendering on May 17th, 2023. The Faith Center is a drug and alcohol residential living center focused on helping members of the community recover from alcohol and drugs. Bob Ham the Executive Director of the Center has gone on record and stated that I am welcome back there to continue my journey of recovery. Living there prior to my self surrender helped me achieve 1 full year of total sobriety from alcohol and drugs on August 28, 2023.
My third option, one which I well aspire to, but not one I’m currently ready for is to secure my own housing arrangements. Though I have managed to save a modest amount of funds to achieve this objective, my preference for initial living is better for me in one of the first two options.
You may contact either my Sister or Bob Ham to confirm options 1 or 2 for me.
TRANSPORTATION:
Because of my failing eyesight I have become a big fan of Uber and Lyft to meet my transportation needs. However, I have managed to save some funds to purchase a small vehicle if necessary.
FINANCIAL:
I was blessed to have a long and productive career in public service prior to my downfall. In doing so I have acquired a modest monthly retirement allotment from both social security and government pensions. Its a modest amount, but enough to cover all my expenses for housing, utilities, transportation and other necessities.
MEDICAL/VISION/DENTAL:
I qualify for both Medicare/Medicaid and have a supplemental insurance plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield from a previous employer. The supplemental plan is good for the rest of my life and is fully paid for by my previous employer.
