Today I’ve spent most of the morning studying for the test that I’ll be taking this week to earn my G.E.D. I’m really focused on math. I’ve been spending hours throughout this month studying and doing the packets that my teacher has given me. I have plans to further my education after getting my G.E.D, it’s important to me. I know it will open doors for me and I’m determined to get it.
The changes I would like to see in America’s prison system are more oppurtunities. More options for programs, programs that are actually available. Available to everyone who is willing to sign up for the classes offered.
I recieved a newsletter about the FSA programs available, supposedly at all BOP institutions, I sent the request to staff to the proper staff about these programs just to get a response saying that the programs I signed up for were not offered in this institution. Frustrating? Sure. Am I going to let it ruin my day, of course not.
There are plenty of people around me who are more than interested in doing something more with there time than sitting in front of a TV all day and playing games all day. I just want to “see” more being done than “hearing” what needs to be done.
I’ve been so inspired by these newsletters and material that you’ve sent me to read that I’ve spoke to my counselor and my G.E.D teacher about it, I’ve spoke to the chaplain about it, I’ve shown others how to sign up for prison professors, and if I can get people on board I would love to be able to have Mr. Santos come and speak here in El Reno. I feel the passion to want to see this broken system changed into something more than isolation and punishment, because I have the same passion burning inside of me, in Jesus name.
God is moving in this place. I see it daily. All I know is to keep doing my part. I know if we all chipped in and did our part together as a whole we can and will see a change in the way things are.
