Changing Americas prison? For me one of the biggest changes I would have liked to happen for myself was to be able to live in an environment that was not so riddled with drugs or be able to escape seeing that kind situation still happening as I am trying so hard to not have that be apart of my life. I have been sober since the day after I was arrested. I didn’t have to live this way while I was in Federal holding but as soon as I got here to Federal FCI Aliceville It was riddled with overdoses almost on a daily basis for the first yr. We had 5 deaths on our compound in a yr time. It was horrible. I had to keep a positive mind keep my goal at hand fresh in my mind everyday. Recovery is difficult even in the best environments but I know that this is not what I want my life to be and am going to keep going all the way to the top. I have a lot of work to go but I want it. I also need some guidance on getting there so this program has been like a answered prayer for me. Maybe this was supposed to be the trial I had to live through to keep me on my toes to remember what I don’t want to live like anymore. I have been fortunate to be able to keep a good positive mind set. I try to encourage others and be as helpful as possible but It can be a sticky situation. When in that situation u have to not get to involved without putting ur recovery in danger. I know once I am away from this life style it will be a lot more peaceful living for me. I think there need to be housing units that those who do work to better there life can live in a better housing unit than those who are in and out of the shu or constantly getting dirty drug tests or getting in trouble for being hi. In my time here in Aliceville I have requested to have a change of housing this entire two yrs almost and could not ever get some help. I am preparing to leave to an RDAP program soon which I am very thankful for everyday I get closer.
