Journal Entry: Tammy Halling-04/08/2025-Toilet paper anyone?

Journal Entry

I understand I am in prison and in being here have given up my rights to certain things, however, one would think that you would still receive basic needs such as toilet paper. Since last Tuesday I have received 1 roll of tissue and turned down for additional toilet paper. Yesterday was suppose to be issue day and we received 0 rolls of tissue. I am currently using napkins and paper towels.

I helped with supplied yesterday and we received only 2 boxes of 96 rolls of tissue for a total of 192 rolls. My unit has 272 women in it. There wasn’t enough for everyone to receive a roll so we got none. Today they will be going through our unit to “look for our stash of toilet paper” per our Unit Counselor. How they figure there could be a stash when for months they have not been issuing but 1 or 2 rolls per week. We are suppose to get 3 rolls per week.

Furthermore, I wrote the Warden a memo and asked about hygiene products, toilet paper, and female hygiene items, and stated that both policy and the U.S. Constitution under the 8th Amendment says it’s his job to make sure there is enough for everyone. His reply was, ” We are diligently working to resolve this issue.” How? Again I tell you it’s been going on for months now.

We don’t have full access to hygiene products such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, pads or tampons, and you can’t get tissue. They don’t have clothing, They have limited the amount of food. They can’t provide for our basic needs. Period.

Now they are taking peoples release dates because of an internal memo on SCA and not following the law, keeping people in prison longer. People they can’t afford to house properly, feed properly, or even give toilet paper to.

Again I understand I am in prison. But can I ask a question? Where is the humane treatment we as human beings should get regardless of the fact that we are in prison or not?
