Recently I wrote about that the BOP seems to be broke because they took away several items at food service due to funding like the salad bar, (which was plain lettuce mix and a generic salad dressing), have limited eggs (understandable with the bird flu and all), and removed supposed extra items, such as beans and rice. I also did not mention but should that my prison does not repurpose left-overs and throws away pounds and pounds of food a day from our kitchen.
I went to get bras again today only to be turned down again due to “funding not available to purchase bras at this time.”
But my real reason for writing today is because yesterday I was called to medical and it was so I could see the eye doctor whose first question was: “How are the new eye glasses working out for you?” my reply was “I don’t know it’s been a year now and I still haven’t got them.”
Than he proceeded to tell me several things I didn’t know throughout my exam. Such as I have macular degeneration with edema and that I was suppose to go out to a retina specialist to get taken care of, which hasn’t happened to date. That I was suppose to see him every 3 months, which also never happened. And finally that he was putting my orders back in, was going to walk my file to my doctor as soon as we were done, and if those things weren’t taken care of I could go blind in my left eye. Can anyone say lawsuit? I can!
This facility can not take care of the people housed in it. I constantly hear “funding, funding, funding” as the problem. That is not the problem. The problem is mismanagement and overcrowding.
If the courts took advantage of alternate methods of incarceration for low-level, non-violent offenders and those who have sentences of 18 months or less by using the availability of probation and ankle bracelets, (home confinement), and took advantage of FSA/SCA, a lot of the overcrowding issues could be taken care of.
I seriously don’t know what to do about this and many other issues that are happening around me. I have been incarcerated for 20 years now and will be starting my 21st year in a month. I am fortunate however because I had a sentence of 110 years and recently received a sentence reduction of 70 of those years. With good-time I have about 12.7 years left…I just hope things improve between now and then…..will keep you posted.
