Journal Entry

Please take a look at the building plans and comments from various organizations and citizens from around the state of Kentucky, about the new to be built Federal Prison in Letcher, KY.
There are some interesting comments; one striking me most as it resonates to the situation in Europe, Australia and other parts of the world, where prisons are being closed y-o-y.

I have written about this before, but the mass prosecution and mass incarceration in the US needs to be reviewed very urgently. When a nation observes systemic recidivism on a much larger scale after incarceration, one has to acknowledge that the prosecution, incarceration and rehabilitation are under enormous pressure and need to be re-evaluated to the required standards.

Crime prevention is of the essence and this can not wait another few decades.

The goals for rehabilitation are not met, the consequence is that more and more younger people enter the prison systems and stay there, merely exiting the prison gates for a brief time and then making their way back in.

These become the so-called “Government children”, who do not have a future, other than being an active part of the crime scene again.

When talking to various incarcerated people, they all acknowledge that not enough is being done to keep their mind on the right track, have enough programs and jobs to keep them busy.

What we see in prisons nowadays, is that people aged 40 and up, are the ones who work and participate in education. The younger people who have deviated from the right track a long time ago, are just being rebellious and act up, they do not want to work nor program. Staff members have to call them to class, have one-on-one meetings with them, even have to go around to their dorms or on the compound to find these students who had to be in class.

Prisons are overcrowded, severely understaffed, there are lockdowns upon lockdowns, when these issues are brought up, be prepared for fierce retaliation.

When will there be an oversight committee who will have boots on the ground and make recommendations for a successful system.

Human beings are now set up for failure, for life.
