10-Success after Prison
Self-Directed Response:
Using a step-by-step process to reach success, better yourself, and get released from prison ready to re-enter society with the highest potential allows you to overcome the constant bombardment of negative situations that the BOP tries to throw at you, every day. I am extremely frustrated right now because I know that I should legally be home on home confinement based on the credits I have legally earned and the time I have served. But, the BOP and courts refuse to allow that, at least for now, and so I use methodical, step by step processes and activities each and every day to persevere. Some of the people serving with me have taken notice and asked how I go through each day and what I do to document my activities and advocate for my release.
As far as influencing stakeholders on the need to reform our prison system, I think the ONLY way to do that, is to start holding the executives in charge of the BOP accountable for the statutes they continue to break and the laws they continue to ignore. It’s one thing to put a correctional officer in jail for abuse and such, which they rightfully deserve, but I think you will finally get some attention and systemic changes when you start putting administrative personnel and executives who allow the program statements and the processes of the BOP to be in contrary (that is breaking) the law, in jail for confining inmates past their legally required dates, thus damaging their families and violating their 8th amendment civil rights!
