Executive Clemency
Critical Thinking Response:
A person in prison can advance their prospects for relief through executive clemency by doing things that make them stand out, that are different from the rest of the prison population. They need to do the obvious things like having a perfect condcut record, perform their assigned job duties, and participate in programming, but they need to do even more than the basics. They should volunteer to help inmates in areas they know about such as eduction, religion, legal matters, writing e-mails to BOP staff or family, etc. They need to offer to help facilitate classes for the various departments within the BOP because the BOP is grossly understaffed. They need to develop a list of people within the BOP such as CO’s, case managers, counselors, etc. that they can list as character witnesses for them when sending in clemency paperwork. They need to document, document, document all the things the BOP requires of them and all the things they do on their own that go above and beyond what the BOP requires. They need to perform and prove extraordinary efforts.
