On November 5, I was notified that there was a hearing scheduled for me in St Louis the next day. I assumed this was about the psych eval report, but I didn’t really have any idea what to expect. I couldn’t sleep much that night and was ready to go when they got me very early on November 6. We sat around for a couple hours and then took the bus to the Federal Courthouse. I waited in the holding cell for my hearing sometime in mid- to late-morning.
I was there in the courtroom alone, representing myself, and no friends or family, just the stand-by counsel public defender to the side. But it was a quick hearing that the psych eval was done and I was to be released! That was it. One guard helped me find some “real” clothes and the public defender had an extra pair of shoes at her office. I finally called my fiancée, and she immediately got in the car and drove the four hours to pick me up. In the meantime, I enjoyed my freedom just walking around downtown St Louis waiting to reunite with my fiancée and our most joyous ride home. What an amazing day!
