I visited the education department yesterday to look into college classes. Danbury offers correspondence classes which is perfect because I’ve never had much success in classrooms, but I love learning. The CO was actually super helpful and after asking what I was interested in, printed out an application and class options for a school that offers what I’m looking for. My next step is to go in this morning and ask some questions. I want to know if it’s realistic to try for a bachelors degree with a year and a half before I get out. I also need to know what happens if I don’t finish before I get out. California Coastal offers an undergraduate certificate in business management which I think I’ll do first because it has courses pertaining to small business. I think that if I can prove to myself that I can complete those 4 courses, I’ll be ready to start a degree program and have the time to finish before I get out. I believe this will give me the education and credibility I’ll need to start my business after I’m released. There are a couple obstacles, like getting previous credits transferred over from Santa Monica City College, and getting my high school equivalency scores sent the institution, but I have a good support network that I think will be able to help me. My goal is to have my application fully submitted before the end of next week.
P.S. Thank you to Roman and Lyn for what you do!
