Journal Entry: A lesson learned the hard way.
While I began my journey into “Paws With Purpose” dog program I was fairly new to prison life. I self surrendered on November 14. 2023 and was accepted into the dog program in January of 2024. On February 14. 2024 I received my first puppy named Dash and fell in love with him immediately. My mental state was not good at the time, I fell into a state of depression and while I began taking medication for the depression, I unfortunately got let go from the dog program. I felt very defeated, because I was trying to get myself under control but medicine doesn’t work over night. Today we have a new dog program called “Pawsitive Purpose” I am a handler with a dog named Curie and love every minute of it. Lesson learned, you take control of your life, you may have rejection but something great will happen in time.
