Staffing seems to be the topic of late at the BOP especially in Tallahassee. Officers working double shifts, no medical staff, and the counselors/unit managers take time off and are never available. Which brings up an another topic about calculating time correctly. The counselor and unit managers have no idea how to calculate FSA and aren’t helping people get to camp or even to halfway houses on time. Many here are waiting on paperwork to be sent so they can go to camp and have been waiting 4-6 months just to sign their paperwork. Many are waiting to go to halfway houses and haven’t even started on their paperwork. It appears that people are being kept longer due to these issues. The lack of halfway houses for women is growing with the growing population in prison. In Tallahassee there are 950 women and that doesn’t count the FDC for men that’s on the property. Even the remedy process is delayed due to staffing concerns.
