There is nothing more rewarding than the feeling I get when I get back to my unit after a full day of work at Horticulture. I came walking in, drenched in sweat, and another day closer to reaching goal #2- to progress in and complete VT Horticulture Green House Specialist. Today I put in 6 live hours toward my vocational training. A group of us pulled weeds from everywhere and also in between all sidewalks throughout the compound per the captain’s request. I performed general maintenance on many compound plants and finished off the day by pulling weeds from our flower beds.
I took an hour after 4 pm count to summarize chapter one of Ornamental Horticulture. The summary is as follows:
Animals and plants both depend on each other to survive. Plants are our main source of food and oxygen. Animals provide carbon dioxide to plants. Humans are responsible for providing a low-pollution environment with other factors such as soil, atmosphere, water, light, and temperature. Our dependence upon them is total. Green plants also capture sunlight (energy) and convert it to forms usable by members of the animal kingdom. Plants are the only organisms capable of manufacturing their own food. (summary is a part of module 2-plant biology)
During my evening I signed up for 2 ACE classes-Goal Setting and Inspire. I worked toward goal #1 by reading chapters 5, 6, and 7 from A Briefer History of Time by Stephen Hawking.
Having these goals and aspiring to reach them has really improved my mental state of mind. Doing time has put me in a dark place and over the last couple of months I have been actively trying to put my mind at ease. I worry and possibly think far too much so working daily to prepare for life after release has truly given me something to look forward to.
