My First Journal: Gratitude
I am serving a 78-month sentence here at FCI Waseca. I am not currently enrolled in Preparing for Success, but I anticipate being in the class in the future. In the meantime, I will pay close attention to journals and begin the process of preparing for my eventual release back into society and into my future. This is the beginning of my profile.
I am grateful for my sobriety, my close-knit relationship with my mom and son, and my VT horticulture program.
I am sober today 2 years 9 months and 5 days! This is big progress for me, as an ex-heroin and meth addict, where I come from is where I never wish to return again.
I have an excellent friendship with my Mom, She is my hero and my best friend. Coming to prison I realize that all those friends I thought I had were not really my friends at all. The only people who have stuck by me in my darkest hour are my family members.
I have a 10-year-old son. He is the brightest light in my life. I have most definitely failed him in the past and one of my biggest goals is to become a good mother for him in the future. Whatever my future holds, he is the main focus.
I am currently enrolled in vocational training to become a certified greenhouse specialist. I am working every day to further and complete this goal by the summer of next year.
