Journal Entry

Coaching strategies from the books I read.

Well one item I value tremendously both in fiction and nonfiction is the ability to reflect. Fiction usually has some underlying conflict that draws me in and a protagonist who faces adversity and overcomes. Understanding the protagonist and how my life can line up with their life helps me build my story, now and for the future. Many nonfiction books I read, for instance, Go Fish! describe real world adversity and some interesting mental, emotional and physical tools to overcome it. The self reflection in those books has helped me tremendously develop my own strategies and encouragement in facing adversity and seeing adversity as a chance to learn and grow. Choosing my attitude and building teams to accomplish tasks as an inmate has been a lesson in practical application of many strategies I’ve read out while here.
