What changes would I like to implement?
Vocational training and RDAP for all inmates. I’ve noticed that many white collar criminals are unsure of what to do for work when they get out. I am one of them. I am not allowed to practice my vocation of accounting upon release. While here in Morgantown I have joined the facilities team doing construction, concrete work, painting, drywall etc. I have helped increase my handyman skills and kept my mental and physical fitness up to prepare to enter society as a productive citizen. In addition, I’ve taken advantage of the Welding Program here to learn Stick and MiG welding. These opportunities and others like them would be great! There was a graphic design program here that would be wonderful to put back into use. Many of the drug dealers here have never held a job or if they did it was menial labor that they cannot support a family on. Getting unions involved and help guys get training to hit the ground running when they are released would be wonderful!
One of the great things I have done here is learn to play guitar and bass guitar. My days are full of music and work here and I love it. We’re getting ready for our second big concert and should have a set list of about 15 songs across a multitude of genres. We are good, really good. It is amazing to see which all the restrictions placed on us guys getting together and using music to work through their own issues and help fellow inmates see some hope by coming to our concert.
