Journal Entry: Marty Brian Robbins-03/02/2024-Wasted time

Journal Entry

It is 6:30 pm on a Saturday, I sit at my bunk, wisdom board across my lap, studying Spanish verb tenses. I look around the dorm room as men play cards, lay in their bunks watching movies or playing games on their tablets, reading, talking in small groups, everyone has their way of doing time. I enjoy my way of doing time, it gives me purpose, my way of doing time keeps my head- up from being depressed, my way gives me satisfaction that I’m not wasting time, precious time. I will not look back on this time as wasted, wishing I would of taken advantage of this time.

‘great minds have purpose, others have wishes’

I remember back when my wife, brother, and I owned a construction company building approx.. 100 homes a year. I made a choice to go union, but went about it the wrong way. Lost the company, almost, overnight. I went around carrying a chip on my shoulders for years after. Worst mistake I could had done, I lost them years, wasted them. I should’ve got right back at it, figuring out what went wrong, and how not to do it again that same way.

‘what is defeat? Nothing but education; nothing but the first steps to something better’

Prison is not a defeat to me, but the first step to a far better future.
