Question-In what ways are the skills that your developing now going to influence your future?

When I first arrived to prison my first job was working at the dining room wiping tables. I didn’t want to keep working in the dining room my whole time while I was in prison nor did I want to wipe tables once I was released. So I had to start with a new plan so I would not fall in a rut that I was convicted felon and no one will hire me so I started taking action to better myself. After a few months working then I started taking some classes offered by the prison thinking that would help me. Once taking the classes I saw they were not really satisfying my crave to find out more about what I wanted to learn. Back then I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go once I was released if I wanted to change careers or stay the same. After some research and thinking I decided to stay the same career and to work on that field by learning as much as I can on my own.

Also another way I have made my skill better is working with others. Of course the prison environment has all types of people that come from a diverse background and work ethics. I have learned to work with others to make a good work place so we all can work together and make the job more efficient.
As a start just these two skills should get me a start to help me show an employer how someone who was in prison can use their time wisely to better themselves and to make a better employee for the employer. Now so close to my release from prison I feel so much more confident in myself and I feel I will be a great employee who might even be able to help others.
