Journal Entry: Marcus Randall-10/02/2024-Show Your Commitment

Journal Entry

Educational credentials enhance peoples prospects for employment. Being a felon it is hard to obtain employment or opportunities that people without a record are subject to. However, the more skills that you are certified in or degrees that you acquire while incarcerated could level the playing field when looked upon by other individual’s. A lot of people who have never been incarcerated don’t want or even try complete courses for degrees or certifications. That alone shows there will and commitment to being an asset to a company let alone themselves. Some of these classes better prepares inmates providing them with the knowledge and tools they need upon release to be beneficial to society and employers. Some institutions have classes that range in variety from parenting, cognitive thinking, welding, carpentry, to social skills. It is still up to the inmate how much energy he puts in the class or if he is trying to actually get something out of the class, but some can be very beneficial if searching to improve your future. I am currently trying to find an institution to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Business or possibly an MBA before I am released from Lompoc FCI 2. Right now I’m swimming through the red tape and have found a couple schools that will provide paper-based correspondence. Now I’m working on administration allowing us to use these institutions at there facility, then I can get to the issues around funding. Prices for advanced education is outrageously high and federal inmates are not eligible for assistance that everyone else has access to on the streets. Another issue is for some reason no California 4 year institutions are dealing with Lompoc on a paper correspondence and that adds to cost because we are considered out of state students. But, I will find a way.
