Journal Entry

I believe that where we are happens for a reason.. There is always a silver lining, especially our bad choices.
Coming to prison saved my life, but I did not deserve a 14 year sentence. I am however grateful for it. I needed it, and I also believe it is for me to learn everything we go through so that I can help women grow through it when I get out. 95% of resources are geared towards men, leaving women flapping in the wind when we are released. I was in state prison before here and when I was released I knew I wasn’t done with that lifestyle… I am now. I want to create an organization for women to live and work when they are released and teach them that they don’t have to be dependent on someone else or addicted to someone or something. I am the first person to go to college in my family (I haven’t been able to complete because the warden got rid of Blinn) I had a 4.0 GPA even though I only completed 8th grade and got my G.E.D. in 1994 when I was 15. I want to help anyone I can not to return to prison and even avoid it a first time. Thank you for the work you do and the encouragement your story gives.
