Journal Entry – Week of December 9, 2024
As we enter the second week of December, the team is fully geared up for a productive, fast-paced schedule. This week’s focus will be on a combination of crosswalk upgrades, roadway improvements, and site organization projects across multiple locations. The weather remains cool and steady, making for excellent working conditions as we move from one task to the next.
Monday: Starting Strong
The week kicks off early, with an energized crew taking on three key projects. Gary is off today, but the rest of the team has their hands full. Matt and Dillion are in Marana, working on installing handrails, while Sean and Anthony head to SLP to tackle the 4th Avenue and Veterans Hall crosswalks, as well as the necessary arrows on the streets. These are crucial safety updates, ensuring smoother traffic flow and clearer pedestrian pathways. Justin and Oso are back at the yard, working on shelving and organization—getting everything in top shape for the week ahead.
Tuesday: Expanding the Scope
Tuesday morning brings a larger crew together for some challenging tasks. Sean, Gary, and Anthony are off to Quail Creek to manage the cat tracks and tackle the turn lane work at Mueller Warehouse. Meanwhile, Matt, Dillion, and Oso focus on laying out the design for the Woodruff Road project in Coolidge, setting up the groundwork for future work. It’s a lot of moving parts, but everything is falling into place. The Coolidge railroad crossing also demands attention today, as Matt, Dillion, and Oso continue making strides in the ongoing SLP project.
Wednesday: Steady Progress
On Wednesday, Anthony is off, but the team powers through with a full day of work. The Woodruff Road project, alongside the Preformed Thermo Rumble Strips, keeps everyone busy. Matt, Dillion, Oso, Sean, Gary, and Justin all gather for this significant project, coordinating the layout and making sure the thermoplastic material adheres perfectly for long-lasting durability. It’s detailed work, but the results will pay off in the increased safety and effectiveness of these road treatments. Later in the day, Justin heads out alone to tackle some sweeping work on Coolidge Avenue, ensuring that any residual debris is cleared and the area is tidy for upcoming work.
Thursday: Precision and Focus
The absence of Anthony doesn’t slow us down on Thursday, as we continue our work on Woodruff Road. The team is focused on completing the Preformed Thermo Rumble Strips, which will help alert drivers to upcoming changes in the road conditions. Matt, Dillion, Oso, Sean, and Gary are in sync, ensuring everything is being laid out with precision. The work demands intense focus, as even the smallest misalignment could compromise the effectiveness of the rumble strips. Justin continues to sweep Coolidge Avenue, moving methodically to ensure that every stretch is clean and clear for traffic.
Friday: Wrapping Up the Week
By Friday, we’re hitting our stride. The final push of the week brings all hands on deck for the Woodruff Road project, as Matt, Dillion, Oso, Sean, Gary, Justin, and Anthony are all working together to finalize the placement of the RPMs (Raised Pavement Markers). The team is pushing to finish strong, with each member carefully aligning the markers to provide optimal visibility and direction for drivers. It’s a collaborative effort, and the team works efficiently to ensure everything is completed before the weekend.
In reflection, this week has been a testament to teamwork and attention to detail. From the handrails in Marana to the intricate thermoplastic rumble strips in Coolidge, each task has required our full dedication and expertise. Though we face some challenges, the team has risen to meet each one with professionalism and skill, ensuring the success of every project we tackle. Looking forward to next week, with more work ahead and more goals to hit.
