Journal Entry: September 30th through October 4, 2023
Location: Maricopa, Arizona
As I sit down to write this entry, the sun is just beginning to dip below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the dusty landscape of Maricopa. The week kicked off early—6:30 AM to be exact—and let me tell you, the heat has been relentless! A reminder to pack sunscreen, hats, and plenty of water has never felt more crucial.
Monday: We hit the ground running without Kalel and Anthony, who are off this week. The crew—Sean, Matt, Jesus, Justin, and Dillion—set out for the Peart/Florence Shortline in Casa Grande. There’s something invigorating about a new project, especially in such a sprawling, sun-baked area. By noon, we were drenched in sweat but fueled by our enthusiasm and the promise of a well-earned lunch.
Tuesday to Thursday: The Maricopa RXR Thermo job kept us busy and on our toes. Each day, it was the same crew: Sean, Justin, Dillion, Matt, and Jesus. The work was intense but oddly rhythmic; it felt like we were part of a larger machine, each of us playing our part in the intricate dance of construction. As the sun blazed overhead, we took turns cracking jokes, keeping spirits high despite the heat. I’m convinced that laughter is just as important as hydration out here!
Friday: A shift in gears! We’ve got a busy day lined up, starting with the Marana Longline Paint Restripe. I’m looking forward to the precision involved in marking centerlines on Crossroads Park. Sean, Anthony, and Matt will be on that, while Justin heads over for the Raytheon Wheelstop Delivery. Meanwhile, Dillion, Kalill, and Jesus will tackle the Marana handrails. The camaraderie we share makes even the toughest tasks feel like a breeze, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
