Journal Entry

Date: August 5, 2024 — August 9, 2024

Start Time: 6:00 AM

Monday, August 5:

The week kicked off with a blaze of energy and, fittingly, with the blazing summer sun casting a relentless glare over our worksite. The temperature has been soaring well above 100°F, making every task feel like a marathon.

Team Assignments:

Reggie & Dillion: Phase 3 & Phase 2

Anthony & Kalill: Phase 1 & Phase 2

Sean, Justin, & Zach: Cherry Ave

Tasks: We set out to tackle U of A Cherry Ave, aiming to finish all remaining phases. With the longline truck unexpectedly out of commission, the crew had to adapt on the fly. Instead of the usual longline approach, we shifted to the Shortline machine and string line for the double yellow stripes. Teamwork was essential to get this done smoothly, despite the heat.

Notes: The truck issue was a curveball, but clear communication and quick thinking ensured Cherry Ave would still be completed efficiently.

Tuesday, August 6:

The sun blazed hotter today, and with Reggie taking a well-deserved day off, we had a full schedule ahead.

Team Assignments:

Sean, Justin, Anthony: Blacksburg Ave Shortline Yellow Thermo & Mountain & Helen Shortline Yellow Thermo

Zach, Dillion, Kalill: Pima Pistol Club Shortline Paint

Tasks: We raced against the clock to apply Yellow Thermo lines at both Blacksburg Ave and Mountain & Helen. Meanwhile, Zach, Dillion, and Kalill were busy at the Pima Pistol Club with Shortline Paint. Maintaining pace and quality was crucial to meet our deadlines in the sweltering heat.

Notes: Keeping equipment in top shape was vital. The heat put extra strain on both our personnel and machines, making it all the more important to stay coordinated.

Wednesday, August 7:

Despite the oppressive heat, the team was in high spirits, tackling a diverse set of tasks. Team Assignments:

Anthony & Reggie: Off

Justin, Kalill, Dillion: Marana Civic Center Restripe Phase 1, Ora Mae Park Red Curb Pressure Wash, then 4th Ave Garage

Sean & Zach: 4th Ave Garage

Tasks: We kicked off with the restriping of Marana Civic Center Phase 1, then shifted to pressure washing the red curb at Ora Mae Park. Afterward, Justin, Kalill, and Dillion moved on to 4th Ave Garage. Sean and Zach focused exclusively on the garage, where the heat added an extra layer of challenge to the work.

Notes: Scheduling was key to balancing these tasks. Ensuring all equipment was prepared for the hot conditions helped keep the day running smoothly.

Thursday, August 8:

With Anthony off and temperatures continuing to soar, the team was ready for another full day of action.

Team Assignments:

Sean, Kalill, Dillion: Marana Civic Center Restripe Phase 2, Ora Mae Park Red Curb Paint

Reggie, Zach, Justin: Costco Drive Turn Arrow Oblit and Repaint, Countryside Villas Red Curb

Tasks: We dove into the second phase of Marana Civic Center restriping and tackled the red curb painting at Ora Mae Park. The turn arrow obliteration and repainting at Costco Drive required meticulous attention to detail. The red curb work at Countryside Villas rounded out our busy day.

Notes: The heat has tested everyone’s endurance, but the meticulous work at Costco Drive and Countryside Villas was completed with precision. Ensuring all paint and equipment worked effectively under these conditions was essential.

Friday, August 9:

The final day of the week came with its own set of surprises and, naturally, another scorching day.

Team Assignments:

Anthony, Zach, Sean, Justin: Coolidge Ave Longline and Shortline Paint ● Reggie, Kalill, Dillion: Marana RPMs

Updated Tasks:

Reggie, Justin, Kalill: Costco Oblit and Paint Arrows

Sean, Anthony, Dillion: 4th Ave Garage Red Curb and Stencils

Tasks: We pivoted from the initial plan with updated assignments. The team focused on Costco’s arrow obliteration and painting while others took on the red curb and stencils at 4th Ave Garage.

Notes: Adaptability was key today with schedule changes. The team’s ability to handle these adjustments under the intense summer heat was commendable. Regular updates and efficient task management kept us on track.

Overall Notes: The week was filled with unexpected challenges and extreme temperatures, but the team’s resilience and adaptability shone through. Regular communication and quick thinking were crucial to managing the evolving tasks and ensuring we met our goals despite the heat.
