Journal Entry for the Week of 5/27/2024 – 5/31/2024
This week marks another significant step toward self-improvement and progressing
towards a positive and fulfilling life with my wonderful family, friends, and supporters.
Since starting full-time at Speedy Striping on 5/17/2024, I have been immersing myself
in the road striping industry, learning everything from product application to the
intricacies of the equipment we use. My team is exceptional, and I am proud to be part
of such a skilled and dedicated crew. Securing this position was a culmination of my
efforts since my release, with my Class A license and endorsements being crucial for
operating the Thermal paint truck, Liquidator truck, long line truck, and other equipment
on the job.
Lucas, the owner, has become a figure I greatly admire for his straightforward approach
and his genuine concern for his employees. During a recent family emergency, he was
the first to offer assistance with rides and food delivered to the hospital, which
significantly elevated my respect for him.
Today brought more good news: I have been given the honor to start training at Empire
CAT to earn my Level 2 certifications on the Hydraulic Excavator. Lucas has graciously
agreed to give me time off to attend the training. This is the first of many new
beginnings, as I plan, with the guidance of Ron Morris at Empire, to participate in every
training course offered over several months. My goal is to become a sought-after CAT
operator. I am also grateful to Dismas Charities, the halfway house currently overseeing
me. Gerald Florez promptly provided the necessary approval to secure my spot in the
training.
While I am not thrilled about missing work, I believe that education is power, and my
sacrifices will pay off in the future, as they have so far. I was excited to share this news
with Bill McGlashan and Michael Santos and his non profit Prison Professors, my
biggest supporters. It feels wonderful knowing that their hard work and dedication are
making a significant impact not only in my life but also in my family’s. I am determined
never to return to prison and will continue to thrive in society, contributing in ways that
will pay forward all the support I have received.
