Journal Entry

April 15-19, 2024

As I reflect on the past two weeks and wrap up the third week of Heavy Equipment Operating School, I feel a profound sense of achievement and determination. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities for growth, and I’m fully embracing them.

The routine of the program has become second nature to me now. Starting early at 7 am and wrapping up in the afternoon at 4pm, with breaks in between to recharge, I’ve settled into the rhythm of learning and practice.

A significant portion of this period has been dedicated to delving into the Level 1 and 2 3rd edition textbook. It’s been a deep dive into the foundational principles of heavy equipment operation, and I’ve approached it with dedication and focus.

This week was particularly intense, with multiple exams. On Monday, I faced two exams, followed by one on Tuesday, and another on Wednesday. The preparation leading up to these assessments was intensive, but it paid off as I tackled them with confidence. My scores from the previous tests were 76, 88, 93, and 97. I’m reassured by the knowledge that my hard work is paying off.

The end of the school day doesn’t mark the end of my commitment to learning. Evenings are spent in further review and consolidation of the day’s lessons, often extending late into the night. It’s demanding, but I recognize the importance of this additional effort in solidifying my understanding and skills.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been fortunate to receive support and encouragement from those around me. Their belief in my abilities fuels my determination to excel in this field. On 4/16/2024 I was contacted by Speedy Striping, a company here in Tucson mister Lucas Boring who is the owner of this wonderful company offered me a job and an opportunity to become part of the team. After hearing about his company and interviewing with him I had no choice but to accept this offer and take this new adventure in my journey once I am finished here at the Heavy Equipment Training School. Lucas was understanding enough to save a position for me until I am finished with my schooling. Thank you Lucus and Speedy Striping for letting me be part of the team. I look forward to this opportunity and giving you and the crew 110 percent.

I recently had another wonderful meeting with the Dismas House, the group in charge of my caseloadand overseeing my movements and freedoms. It’s heartening to hear their recognition of my progress and hard work. Their encouragement means a lot to me, especially as I sometimes overlook my own accomplishments in my drive to make a better life for myself. Their acknowledgment only strengthens my resolve to succeed further, knowing that others are proud of my efforts.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to Bill McGlashan, Michael Santos, Prison Professors, and also these members at Dismas Charities Robert Vonada, Daniel Cardenas, Liam, Matt, V, Daniela, and all the unnamed staff who consistently support me in my educational pursuits and path to success. Thank you for believing in me.

Sincerely,
Justin Ray Norcutt
