Journal Entry for Justin Norcutt – Week of January 12, 2025
Monday, January 12: The week began with an early 7:30 AM start, and a slightly smaller crew due to Anthony being off. Matt, Dillon, Oso, and I worked on the Orange Grove/Oblit Thermo Arrows project in Marana, AZ. We focused primarily on the removal and replacement of RPMs at Orange Grove, Costco Place, and Joiner/Travel Center. Despite the lighter team, the day went smoothly with no significant issues, and we were able to stay on schedule. In addition to our primary tasks, we also worked on several Speedy Yard Projects, including installing a roll-up door, shelving, and filling Thermo truck beads. All in all, a productive and efficient start to the week.
Tuesday, January 13: We returned to Marana, AZ, this time with a full team, as Anthony rejoined us. We began with restricting longline paint at Orange Grove, Costco Place, and Joiner/Travel Center. Sean, Gary, and I handled the longline work, while Matt, Dillon, and Oso worked on restriping shortline paint, crosswalks, stop bars, and arrows. The team worked well together and completed everything on time, but the day wasn’t without its challenges. A truck driver, who disregarded our safety instructions, drove through a coned-off restricted area, ran over our fresh road paint, and deliberately swerved over our new work. After contacting the company that hired the driver, they agreed to cover the cost of both blacking out the affected area and restriping the road. It’s frustrating when people can’t take a moment to be patient and mindful of safety—this incident only reinforced my belief that patience is a virtue, and safety should always come first.
Wednesday, January 14: It was a quieter day, with both Anthony and Gary off. We shifted our focus to Tucson, AZ, where we worked on the Suntran Bus Facility. Our tasks included restriping shortline HD paint, repainting curbs and bollards, touching up 5 MPH stencils, and doing some pressure washing. The crew—Sean, Matt, Oso, Dillon, and I—worked hard, though the pressure washing took longer than expected. However, we pushed through and completed all tasks efficiently, leaving the Suntran facility looking much sharper.
Thursday, January 15: We spent another day in Tucson, continuing our work at the Suntran Bus Facility. Anthony was off again, so the crew consisted of Sean, Matt, Dillon, Oso, Gary, and myself. We repeated the tasks from the previous day, with an emphasis on precision in areas that needed extra attention. The day went smoothly, and it felt good to maintain consistent quality over multiple days of work. We managed to meet our goals for the day without any issues, which always makes for a satisfying experience.
Friday, January 16: The week wrapped up with a busy but productive end. With the full team in place (minus Anthony, who had the day off), we completed any leftover tasks from earlier in the week. I helped oversee some final checks to ensure everything was up to standard, and it was great to see the team in good spirits. By the end of the day, we had finished everything on time, and the week felt like a solid success.
Reflection: Overall, this week was productive and went smoothly despite a couple of days with fewer staff. I’m proud of how the team managed to stay on track and maintain high-quality work throughout the week. The coordination between the crew was seamless, and we found a good balance between more technical tasks and the routine yard work. Looking ahead to next week, I’m confident that we can continue this momentum and tackle whatever comes our way.
