I find staying connected with the outside world one of the hardest parts of being incarcerated. You want to sometimes just forget about the outside world and just make everything be about here. But I realized after a while that if you don’t stay involved with your support system then you will lose it. I make it a point now to stay a part of my family’s lives. I try to call home as often as I can to see how everyone is. I am hoping that by doing this I will have a strong network of people who will support me in a positive way when the day finally comes that I get to go home.
