I have been thinking about your words on advocating and importance of networking. I was always thinking how can you network when you’re in prison. I have FINALLY made an effort to try out some of your ideas. I am writing a letter to the animal shelter across the street from the camp here at Pekin. In hopes to get a program going that will allow them to bring dogs over for socialization or maybe let some of us go to the shelter to volunteer time cleaning kennels and walking dogs. So I have written two letters, at first I was ready to give up then I realized I needed to keep trying. I will continue to write in hopes that they will see the value in letting inmates give back to society by helping with shelter dogs. It would be a great program and would help everyone involved.
