Jerrold Maurer-06/25/2025-Journal #34 – Reflections on Songs

Journal Entry

While on a walk today before 4PM count I listened to 5 songs. I heard every song for what they mean to me, and wanted to share some insight with my family.

Mike Peters – I love him so much and can’t thank him enough for contributing so much as a wonderfully talented artist. He was such a beautiful human being and a dear friend.

Now for the reflections:

1. Bruce’s – Lucky Town – I love this song so much and the way he sings it….this was when he was not with the E Street Band.

My interpretation of this song is that it is about a guy who was in trouble and went searching for a place to lose the blues he was having, and he found Lucky Town…but guess where Lucky Town is for me? Yes, Otisville! I came here with the blues but am leaving a changed man!

Then this guy tells his girl (I think of my wife), it’s time to go make our own luck and make our dreams come true….which makes me think of home or anywhere my immediate family is.

Verse –
I’m going down to Lucky Town
I want to lose these blues I’ve found down in Lucky Town

I had some victory…..
It was just failure in deceit,

Well here’s to your good looks baby,
Now here’s to my health.
Here’s to the loaded places that we take ourselves.
When it comes to luck,
You make your own. (meaning hard smart work)
Tonight I got dirt on my hands,
But I’m building me a new home……baby down in Lucky Town

2. Bruce’s – My Love Will Not Let You Down – dedicated to my wife –
The HBO recording is so damn good! I can’t wait to watch it 1000x with my family.

3.. The Alarm/Mike – The Road
This song is about my immediate family supporting each other no matter what each of us is going through. When I was rocking, singing and dancing all by myself around the parking lot (I walk in circles there because that’s the closest I can be to my family), I can’t help but think how you all have supported me, as the guy as you will hear in the first line, gets back up all the time after experiencing all of the negative…

Here are just some lyrics…

Every day I get up from off of the floor,
I keep on coming back for more and more.

So many times,
I get it in the face,
I keep on running till my dying day.

As the road opens up in front of my eyes,
These wheels are burning up the miles,
As the road opens up in front of my eyes,
The only limitation is in my mind.

I’ll be there when it all comes down (My family rooting, cheering and supporting each other!)
I’ll be there…
When it all comes down…

4. The Alarm/Mike – Strength – dedicated to my wife
Every time when the chorus comes on, I alway yell out loud “Whoah – a whoah!!!

Give me LOVE,
Give me HOPE,
Give me STRENGTH
Give me someone to live for!! (my family!)

I need someone who I can DEPEND ON!

I’m at a point in my life that I need AFFECTION!

5. The Alarm/Mike – Unsafe Building – dedicated to my family
This was one of the first songs Mike ever wrote and it stands the test of time.
I truly believe this song is about how we all want to live our best lives being who we truly are. He says he is an unsafe building as a way of saying he is fragile…I always think of my family members who have overcome and continue to face adversity.
