Playing tennis in a prison camp comes with its own type of pressure. Dozens of campers are usually walking around the entire campus while you are playing tennis and some campers retrieve balls for us. But some campers take sides and call out your name or your opponents name as a cheer. I experienced multiple campers calling out my name which is so sweet.

The new guy who came in a few days ago was standing by watching the whole thing. He complimented my forehand saying it is powerful and the fact that my backhand slice is fantastic. I also appreciated a critique he shared in order to improve my one handed backhand. He said to practice like a windshield wiper. I can’t wait to practice and perfect it.

I noticed a new Jewish camper arrived today which is always great come Shabbat as we welcome a new arrival.

Later on in the evening I huddled in the cube with a few fellow campers. I shared how my sister saw Bruce at Carnegie Hall last night in honor of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Patti Smith’s 1st album, and they decided to do an impersonation of how I explained the story to them. I know you had to be there, but it was one of the funniest moments I’ve had here. My belly was aching so hard from the laughter.
