Journal Entry: Jerrold Maurer-03/10/2025-Journal #11 – Otisville Pickleball Player of the Year

Journal Entry

Last night after Shabbat services then dinner and more services….I went back at 9:30pm with a few campers for a friendly get together where sometimes one of the judaic teachers shares something but tonight we just had fun talking amongst each other having snacks ie Twizzlers, Choc Babka, and chips. It was great even if they don’t have Red Vines!

So, I went back to my bunk around 11pm, which was late for me, but even though I was exhausted I woke up at 10am in time for count.

Once count was over, I read for an hour and then I worked out in the gym. This time, in addition to 2 miles on the elliptical, I lifted weights and it felt really good. I am now 100% better since the concussion!

Then around 1pm, the new guy said he wanted to play pickleball, so I went to play with him and a few other campers. My team won all 3 of our first matches, and the guys ready to play next started chanting “Jer-ry, Jer-ry, Jer-ry”as they commented on my playing…and I overheard “Jerry really can play. He picked up on the game so fast”. Another guy said out loud that I never hit unforced errors.

We played the next pair, and we beat them too….and after the match, one of the guys who just lost to us said to me “Jerry, you are definitely the Otisville Pickleball Rookie of the Year!

Happy to get the accolades, and nice to play in the outdoors on such a sunny and beautiful day!
