Journal Entry: Georgiana Elizabeth Jones-01/27/2025-Cleaning issues

Journal Entry

So we have a right to a sanitary environment and to be treated with respect, according to policy here at Tallahassee FCI. Yet and still as a bathroom orderly I am not even provided gloves to clean with, other than non-functional large rubber dish cleaning gloves that do not really work to clean with. They are not for the function of cleaning bathrooms, and we all know this. Even if they were, who would reuse gloves used on toilets?? Now if there was proper cleaning chemicals that may be a arguement yet the pink chemical that is given is very non-abrasive and is questionable due to the place still feeling very .. unclean after its use. Bleach is needed for these heavily used bathrooms. If not bleach than a more abrasive, stronger smelling cleaner. We beg in here for gloves to do trash duty at night, often having to go from unit to unit to see if anyone has any. If you ask for gloves in the morning from staff to clean with you will very often be told no, none are available. This is unsanitary and unsettling. There are shortages here on everything, constantly. Food, clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies, commissary items to include basic hygiene products, often and consistently are out. Barely anyone shows up for their scheduled shift for education, and recreation, or Unit Team. One bottle of comet was allotted us this month to clean 7 showers. We were told we could exchange it after it was out for a second yet no one was ever in the office to give us the other one, and weeks later when I did “catch someone” they claimed “they were out”. Now there are BLACK WORMS crawling up the walls of the shower, right now. There are RED WORMS crawling out of another, right now. There are flies everywhere in another shower. As I said before the pink cleaner is not working. Everyone has been made aware of the issue, with pictures taken, months ago, yet NOTHING has been done. This is beyond unsanitary, and inhumane. Something needs to be done.
