Yesterday started off normally: got up at 5:15am, breakfast at 6am, work at 7am, return to unit at
10am, lunch at 11am. While at work I found out that the Education Building would be closed
after 3pm, so that I wouldn’t be able to work my 5-8pm shift. So, after dinner, I went to the
Recreation Center and did some cardio instead. I came back at 7pm and showered. As I got out
of the shower, I noticed a large influx of people returning to the unit. It seemed too early for the
8pm recall. Did I really take that long of a shower?
Turns out, it was 7:20pm and an institutional recall and lockdown was called. No one seemed to
know why. I was sad because I couldn’t call home like I normally do every evening around 8pm.
At work the following morning, I found out the reason for the early recall and lockdown by my
co-worker who happened to see what happened.
Apparently, the police were chasing a man in an old beat-up car. Don’t know if the car was stolen
or the reason for the chase. Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but the car turned onto the
prison property here and was speeding through. We were recalled and locked down for our
safety.
The BOP patrol was able to stop the car in question and within moments the police had the
driver out of the car and handcuffed on the ground. I don’t know if weapons were found, and not
sure if the incident made the news.
Lesson of the Day: If you’re going to lead the police on a car chase, for whatever reason, probably
not the wisest choice to lead the police onto the grounds of a Federal Correctional Institution.
Just sayin’ . . . .
