Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Today Joe Biden meets with President Elect Donald Trump. I am up early with the yelling that Officer Augeyman does unnecessarily. Apparently we are locked in and our breakfast trays were brought to the units. Not sure what is going on, but I get to take advantage of several things on days like today. I sit down and peacefully eat my cereal with milk, then wash my bowl and spoon. I eat the little vanilla muffin that was included in our trays then grab my mug and prepare some coffee while listening to the morning news that is playing on the far left television in the Glasshouse.
I climb back up into my bunk, grab my daily devotionals and Bible and read what message God has for me today.
[Hebrews 11:1]
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
From the Bible, today I read Genesis chapter 28, Jacob’s dream. I highlighted verses 20-22 because I feel it in my heart that it is perfect for what many of us go through in life, but need to understand as well that God will always provide for us, so we need to leave it to Him to guide us.
“…If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s house, then the set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth.”
These are words we could all live by. It’s words that I will continue to live by to live a positive, and productive lifestyle. For example, today was our commissary day, and as many others may complain about being locked in and not being able to go purchase our items, I am not worried, because I know that God will “watch over me on this journey, and will give me food to eat” until the day I return home.
I see the lunch cart entering the unit, seems like the lockdown continues. It’s 10:35am and the officer enters the Glasshouse yelling, “CHOW”, so we all head to our cubicles while the orderlies pass out the lunches to each person. We were given one pack of 4 slices of bread, two small peanut butter packs, two small mixed-jelly packs, and the other pack was 4 bread slices with two slices of turkey and a small pack of expired mayonnaise. Mr. Aquino chose the turkey pack and I took the other. The bread slices were slightly frozen, the peanut butter packs were as well. I take the peanut butter packs with me to the restroom, put them in the sink and turn on the hot water until i feel they are squishy and not solid. I prepare both sandwiches and enjoy. Even though it wasn’t much, I enjoyed the sandwiches and am grateful for these experiences, even if the food is not the best, we need to be thankful that even under the worst of situations, we are fed way more than what some people have who are not incarcerated.
Catholic and Santeria services today in the chapel at 1pm. Time to get dressed and ready just in case they remove the lockdown before then. 12 o’clock on the dot, and 10-minute move is called, but the doors are still locked. I’m ready to go, water bottle in hand. As I stand by Mr. Campos’ room, facing the televisions and waiting for the doors to be opened, I realize, its already 1pm and we are still locked in. Time to grab a small Cuban Coffee with my “Cafe Bustelo Instant Coffee”.
I am awake after a nice, very much needed, over 2 hours nap. It’s time for count so off the bed and down to the floor on my feet I go. As the officers are leaving the Glasshouse, I step over to Mr. Campos’ room, “Are you preparing any food today?” I ask him. “Not really, nothing in mind for this evening”, he responds. I grab my radio and head to my chair to watch the 4pm news. By 4:30pm I am calling dad to see how he is doing, no new updates to report, and we talk a little about how Trump’s new administration is preparing their team for when their time comes next year.
Count clears, unfortunately we are still locked in. The food cart has arrived at the unit. Mr. Lorenzo comes over to me and asks if I would like some food he prepared, that he made too much for him and Bon-Bon, so I take my bowl and they serve me a portion. About one hour later, we are called to the door one by one to pick up our dinner food trays. We were sent mixed greens, sliced beats, cold vegetables, diced turkey, one boiled egg, and two slices of bread. Not bad, but I am not hungry at the moment, so I stored it all in my bowl, and placed it in a small bucket of ice for later. Time to shower.
I can’t believe I went to the shower in my “nice” sandals, instead of my shower shoes. It’s okay, I dried them up nicely, put some body powder on them, and they are good as new. “Olympus has Fallen” is on SYFY tonight; what an excellent movie, going to enjoy it until it is time to call mom.
It has been a quiet evening here in the Glasshouse. Now we are watching “Lethal Weapon” on SYFY, another excellent movie to enjoy. Mom is good, step-dad is good, mima is good. Oh yea, Maggie is good too, not sure if she is missing her true owners though, who are on their honeymoon, hopefully enjoying themselves.
The evening is almost over, I decided to drink a green tea, that I have not had in a few weeks. Trying to keep warm; the air conditioner is working real strong here in the unit. Going to head back, finish the movie, and possibly head to bed early, hoping they allow us to go to commissary tomorrow and end this lockdown.
Father God, thank you for this wonderful day, and the chance to rest today after a busy week. Please watch over our family, friends and loved ones. I pray for an excellent and productive end of the week so we can have a smooth visit day on Sunday. Thank you dear Lord for all you do, and all you will be doing in our near future. Amen.
