Goodnight sleep, woke up and rolled out of bed at 7am. I am scheduled for two callouts, first one at 7:30 in Education for a class, and the other for 09:00 for labs in medical. I get to Education, am told the callout was incorrect and class is on Friday. I head to the law library and print out a few documents I had in queue, then take the 08:00 move to my unit, sit in my room, and read my daily devotionals. The dorm is quiet, our Unit Manager has been coming in daily and making sure there is no one in the dorm sleeping or just hanging out, thankfully I will be heading to medical soon and had reason to be here. At 09:00 I head to medical and wait to be called for my labs. The phlebotomist is excellent and gets my vein on the first pinch, and fills several vials of my blood, asks for a urine sample and I head back to the unit.
I get Mr. Rivero ready for lunch, and I wheel him over to the “chow hall”, saying hello to other inmates and officers as we go around the lake in the center of the compound. Even in prison, I don’t seem to care what others think or say, I smile and say greet anyone walking towards me, in hopes to cheer them up even if it is a little bit. After lunch, I drop off Mr. Rivero, put his wheelchair away and head to the chapel for my 12-3 shift.
After 4pm count I let Mr. Rivero know I am not interested in the dinner tonight, thankfully neither was he, and so I head to the chapel. Tonight was week 6 of the “Alpha” Christian program we are doing in the chapel.
In the video for this week, they mentioned a reading in the Bible from 2 Timothy, chapter 3, verse 16 where it reads: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness, (and it continues through verse 17) that “the man of God” may be complete, equipped for every good work.
What a powerful message, and it is just one more that I will keep close to my heart and always remind myself who I have now become, and as I have mentioned before to our Chaplains, my goal here in prison is to learn as much as possible and push myself to do better becoming an even better person than I was before using the Scriptures as my guide and being a mentor to others in hopes of pulling them away from any wrongdoings and over to a more positive lifestyle.
Both the English and Spanish “Alpha” went great, everyone is always wanting to come back for more.
I head back to my unit at the 8pm move after putting the chapel back in order, and shutting off the lights, call my mom, eat a pouch of mackerel fish, and shower.
Our Miami Marlins are not doing so hot, but it’s okay. There is always next year.
This journal comes to an end here, have a good night.
Father God, there aren’t enough words to describe how grateful and thankful I am for the way you are with me. At times when I may feel a little down, in small ways you show me you are there for me. Thank you for all the good you have put in my life, thank you for my family and friends, please continue to watch over my loved ones, keep us safe, healthy and strong. Amen.
