Last night I was so determined to wake up early and go to breakfast. I had my spoon, sugar substitute (for the cereal), and my socks ready for when I wake up I would not make so much noise for my roommate. Doors were unlocked early, and breakfast was called, problem is I did not hear any of it and I slept until 7 that my roommate woke up to get ready. I did not let this ruin my day, I got up, got ready and headed to the computers to email my family and prepare to catch the ten minute move so I could make it to Education and print out some documents. Before I was able to head out, another inmate stopped me and asked that I help him with some translations and typing an electronic request.
right before 10am, a recall was called and everyone returned to their units and we waited for the call for lunch. I make sure Mr. Rivero is up and ready, pull out his wheelchair and we sit in the dayroom to wait. Lunch today was hamburger, potatoes cut to look like fries, and extremely undercooked, with a wheat hamburger bun, lettuce pieces, some onion and mustard. I ate everything except for the bread, grabbed my tray and Mr. Rivero’s tray, took them to the dish-wash room and then wheeled him back to the unit and dropped him off. Luckily I was able to get what I needed and headed to Education to print the documents and from there headed to the Chapel to wait for the Catholic service at 1pm.
The service today was done by the volunteer, was good to see him, and he was happy to see me. Was worried I had not been there in the last two weeks, I gave him my reasons and he understood. Towards the end, as we stood, I closed my eyes, and got into deep prayer.
At times when you feel God is not listening, or is not there for you, that is when he is working the hardest to give you the best outcome he can give you. This prayer was a small one, asking for guidance. All I could say is he responded, showing me he is still there and he is working, but what I really, really want, is not time for it.
Dinner tonight was chef’s salad, they unlock our doors after count clears and I head to Mr. Rivero’s room, only to find out he had no interest in “rabbit food” as he called it, and was preparing a dinner for the both of us including Beef Salami, Chorizo, Pork Cracklings, Refried Beans, and white rice, plus seasonings of course. Oh how delicious!!!! But this meant that at 6pm I had to get to recreation and sweat it all off, so I did. I played some racquetball, then some pickleball, and came back to the dorm at 8pm drenched in sweat.
Called my mom as soon as I got to the dorm, had a nice conversation with her and the mims (grandma). They are amazing, I am so grateful to have them. Time to end this journal for today. Last day of July, and we are less than 6 months from the end of the year.
Thank you God for all you do, thank you for my family, thank you for my friends and loved ones. Thank you for the good people you have put in my life, and for moving any negative people out of my life. Lord, please continue to watch over us each and every day, touch the hearts of all those around me and bring harmony and peace to this compound. August 2024 is here, please guide us in making this the best and worry-free August of our lives, all this Father God I pray in your son Jesus’ name, Amen.
