Alarm ringing at 5:35am, apparently I did not hear it and kept sleeping. Up and getting ready by 7:30, eating my last salted Matzo cracker with some peanut butter, then preparing my tea. The unit officer calls on everyone in the unit to get what we each may need for the day because we are being sent out of the unit for the day due to some installations. I grab my water bottle and head to Mr. Rivero’s room to get him ready, at his age, he does not move to swiftly. He continues eating his morning cereal, I kneel in front of him, remove his sandals and put his shoes on, tie them, and help him prepare his coffee.
I wheel Mr. Rivero over to medical for his daily callout, I poke into medical and ask the nurse to take care of him for me, and I leave towards the recreation yard.
I have been in the talks about shaving my head because I have not liked the way my last haircut came out but I have been very indecisive about it. Last night my roommate was both, the devil on my left shoulder and the angel on my right shoulder, telling me I should, then not to. Finally, I grabbed my blunt-tip scissors and started cutting away as we waited for count. As I cut the hair, my roommate could not stop laughing on how funny my head looked, thinking I belonged in a “crazy suit”. So before heading to out today, I made sure I put sun screen on my head just to be safe, hopefully that is not a problem for later hair growth.
While at “rec”, I drank my tea, then joined the guys playing racquetball, we played for 2 hours non-stop, it was excellent. At the move, I headed over to the Chapel, and caught up with Mr. Rivero and his wheelchair, we waited for the call to lunch and we headed over. One more week no chicken on the bone, third week in a row unfortunately, but thankfully the shredded chicken wasn’t too bad.
I wheeled Mr. Rivero back over to the Chapel, and we waited a few minutes for the chaplain to arrive, I lent him my AM radio so he could listen to the news while we waited. Once in the Chapel, I setup a movie on the big screen and we enjoyed that for about half an hour until the Jews arrived for their volunteer visit.
After arriving back at the dorm at 2pm, I made myself a Bustelo Cuban Coffee, and relaxed until 3:30 lock-in. For some reason I felt something would go differently during count, so I mentioned to my roommate, “I have a feeling count is going to be delayed and they wont open until late, hopefully they just leave us locked in so we can sleep the rest of the evening”, which sounded good being so tired from the morning games in “rec”. The officers called “COUNT”, passed by, then had to recount, then called for a census count. They did not unlock the doors until almost 6pm. “Your words are powerful Eddie”, my roommate says to me, as I head out the door to Mr. Rivero’s room, since he decided he will be preparing food for the both of us.
After eating and cleaning up for him, I head over to call dad, then to shower. The night is coming to an end, but before it does, I need to call mom, then watch the “pre-show” to the last night of the Republican National Convention. Mr. Trump, good luck tonight, and Make America Great Once Again.
Tomorrow, a new day with new challenges and greater adventures. Now to move over a computer to help someone type a Cop-Out (Electronic Request Form).
Goodnight.
