Journal Entry: Eduardo Luis Valdes-06/26/2024-Day 1015

Journal Entry

I’m off from work today, decided to try and sleep in. I’m up at 8am as a buddy of mine knocks on my room door and tells me the case manager is here today, asks that I please translate for him, so I jump out of bed, wash my face, wet my hair, comb it with my fingers, brush my teeth, put on my class A uniform, grab my cup and a new tea bag, and head out the door. My friend, Roberto, is standing by the case manager’s office patiently waiting as he watches me make my way over and gets mad at me as I pretend to not walk towards him. After meeting with the case manager, another inmate walks up asking if I could do him the favor of translating for him as well and am glad to do so. I am so grateful to be assigned to this unit with this case manager, he really takes his time to listen to our concerns and go out of his way to get an answer for us.

It’s almost lunch time, I head to my room to read my daily devotionals and next two chapters in the book of Matthew in my Bible. Now time to find Mr.. Rivero, get his wheelchair ready, and make sure he has his napkins and identification. They called ‘CHOW’ early today so we go for our Wednesday burger. I started my diet yesterday, so for lunch I only had the burger pattie, onions, and lettuce… Oh yeah, and some of the fries.

After dropping off Mr. Rivero at the dorm and parking his wheelchair in his room, I get ready to head to the Chapel for 1pm Catholic service. I called my dad and we spoke for about 5 minutes, we were both disappointed in our Miami Marlins but we’ll get over it. The Marlins also lost today.

Four o’clock count time, I almost slept through it, thankfully my roommate somehow woke me up and I was able to get on my feet before the officers passed by. Not much happening this evening, they did not open up the recreation yard for whatever reason, so I showered and am ready to call home in a few minutes and heading to my room for the night.

I will say today was a positive day, helped several inmates and found out an older gentleman that became a good friend got news he is going home this week. Goodnight.
