What a complicated 2 weeks it has been. I have not been able to get around much, as about 10 days ago we were locked in early due to an incident on the compound. A few days later, another incident happened in another unit and for the safety and security of the compound we were all locked into our rooms from Saturday, May 25, until yesterday May 30th, no phone calls, no email, and only five minutes to shower on the third day. This was not my first lockdown, so my mindset was put on meditation, reading, listening to the daily news, and the Miami Marlins baseball games, even though they are not doing too well this year, but I still support them, and much needed rest. For my roommate on the other hand, this was his first true lockdown, and not only am I grateful to have him as a roommate, I am at peace knowing he was in the room with me and I was able to somewhat mentor him throughout the time locked in our room. He is twelve years younger than me and is “fresh” into any prison system so with the 32 months of experience I have had so far, I kind of took him ‘under my wing’ to help him get through the day to day understandings of the prison system. I am happy we are out of lockdown now, but we are still restricted on our daily activities for a few days. Visit is tomorrow, so it’s time for a haircut, and get ready to wheel J.R. over to lunch before heading to the Chapel and prep for the religious services that are scheduled today.
