Journal Entry: Eduardo Luis Valdes-04/11/2025-Day 1303

Journal Entry

Today was an excellent day in the midst of all we go through.
I began my day by assisting our new Re-Entry Coordinator with translation in my unit regarding the Department of Motor Vehicles and their collaboration with helping, soon to be released AIC’s, with their drivers licenses or identifications.

After lunch I went up into our counselors office to collect some visitation family forms for a new arrival, and showed him what information was needed from each person who would like to visit him. From there, I took the move over to the Education Department to lend a hand first in the Leisure Library and later helping the clerks with some paperwork.

At the 2pm move, I took a flatbed cart with me over to meet my supervisor and haul some of his things from his old office over to his new office in the rear of Education. Once we arrived at Education, we accommodated his things, returned the cart, and I walked with him over to Unicor to provide the same information to everyone regarding the drivers licenses. As we leave, we walk towards the last two units he needs to present to.

Once we finish in one unit, he asks me to head back to my unit due to the time, to make sure I am there in time for the count. On my way back to my unit, the officer from my unit tells me the chaplain is looking for me and calls compound to notify of my movement. When I arrive at the chapel, the chaplains mention to me they are missing 56 DVD’s from the locker.

Me: “Are you sure you are missing that many? There are two binders, and all the DVD’s are labeled, numbered according to their case on the shelf”
Chaplain: “We did inventory in that locker, and that is what we are missing. Let’s go check.”

Once we get to the locker, she opens it and takes out the first binder, and after I explain the organization in the binder and on the shelf, she puts that binder away and grabs the second binder. She opens it and points at DVD slot that is empty.

Chaplain: “Where is this one?”
Me: “That is a slot I left ready, labeled for “The Chosen, Season 2″ DVD. Our Bible study group has not finished season 2; the DVD is in its case, it is all labeled, and is in your office. As soon as we complete season 2, all you guys need to do is place the DVD in this slot and the case on the shelf in numerical order.”
Chaplain: “Are you certain the DVD is in my office?”
Me: “Yes ma’am, Chaplain Hostler has it with his things.”

The other chaplain arrives, and questions the empty sleeves in the binder as well, and once I explain those are the only extra sleeves we had left, and that I left them there in case of new incoming DVD’s, they thanked me, and sent me on my way back to my unit.

I am quite happy they saw first hand the work I did for them was organized and nothing ever went missing while I was there.

Back in my unit, I head to my room to quickly change into my recreation clothes, and my sneakers then sit to read my daily devotionals and today’s word was very clear to me.

“How wonderful to be wise, to analyze and interpret things. Wisdom lights up a person’s face, softening it’s harshness.”
[Ecclesiastes 8:1]

As count clears, I head to the phone to call dad, then take the first move with my roommate over to the recreation band room to practice for this weekend Christian services.

We practiced several songs, both in English and Spanish. I am happy the way this little group is getting along, learning as we go,(as this is all new to us), and sounding better each time.

The 8pm move is on, and I am on my way to the unit, smile on my face. Today has been a positive day in a negative environment. I get to my room and sit down for a few minutes after taking off my shoes. I ask my roommate if he is hungry, and he asks me what am I in the mood for. We finally decided on a mackerel soup, so we put together two ramen soup squares and two mackerels; he added some seasonings then hot water. A few minutes later, we were enjoying our ramen.

I take our bowls to wash, then grab my things to go shower before the night time count.

Count just passed by, my night is almost over. Soon over ten new guys will be coming in through R&D to join us here at this institution. Tomorrow they begin their journey here, and I, like always will keep an eye out for anyone who may need some help getting to know the facility and what is needed from them.

Dear Father God, please Lord, remind me of the good that comes from wisdom. It is such a great feeling to better understand things more than I do now, I know I have much to learn and as always I ask for your guidance, and a chance to learn more and more each day, so I am able to help others. Thank you God for all you do, and always taking care of my family and me. Amen.
